FOOD FOR THOUGHT: JAPAN
Exploring food etiquettes around the world; through the use of typography. Compressing heavy found information to a more visually and informative way. Encouraging those to explore the topic further and learn more about the culture of new places.
The outcome represents the result of selective research about the food etiquettes of Japanese food. The grid was based on the common table layout found in traditional Japanese restaurants. Whilst the inside of the book is broken down into different sections from the moment you sit down, until you exit the space of eating.
The book works as a type-based informational book on the topic. Breaking down information which once was located in different areas, coming together in an easy to access space. That is both helpful, but playful on the type-based layout and materiality of the book. The paper weight, colour and final stitch helps to tie things together in a way that visually represents a traditional table setting when eating.
